Poetry Assignments (April 2018):

  1. Things You Would Find Under My Bed
  2. 2nd List Poem is created from a list of your choosing.

Make a list of 8-10 items (don’t edit… if you think it, write it down)

Lengthen half or more of the items by embellishing… example “a sock” becomes: “a dirty sock turned inside out with what looks to be blood on the heel”

Leave some of the lines short (i.e. just the item) so there is variety in length

Use personification to describe at least one object in each poem.

Use 1 other literary device (simile, metaphor, alliteration) in each of the poems.

Revise, organize, and edit.  Pay attention to the conclusion… how can you end your list that makes a satisfying conclusion to your poem?

3. Bully, Bullied or Bystander Poem

4. 3 Word Form Poem (2)

5. Diamante (see handout)

What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world, after world, after world – worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet or excite you.  Books help us understand who we are and how we are to behave.  They show us what community and friendship mean; they show us how to live and die.
