Social Studies

Note: This page has not been updated for the 2020-21 school year at this time.

Grade 7 and 8 Social Studies – General Information:

During this School-at-Home period of learning, the focus for learning will be mainly on Literacy and Numeracy. You will not be given a great deal of Social Studies work, as the total time expected for Grade 7/8 students per day is ~2 hours.

GRADE 8 Students:

Go to Google Classroom (your Social Studies Class) to find instructions and an assignment to complete during the two-week period from April 14 – April 26.  If you have trouble accessing Google Classroom, please email me to make alternate arrangements.

Grade 7 Social Studies

Many wonderful opportunities for learning and discovery have been provided for free by educational companies during the pandemic, and it would be a shame to miss out on them.

Each week, find something of interest to you that relates to Social Studies (some examples will be given below). This could be a newspaper or magazine article, or a site or article online. As stated above, there are many opportunities to access programs and sites for free right now. When you have read, viewed, or participated in your activity of choice, go to Google Classroom and an assignment will be there for you.

Time Expectation: 20-30 minutes per week.

The week of April 13th will be very busy as you adjust to a new work schedule. Therefore, you can complete your first weekly assignment sometime during the week of April 20 – April 26. If you don’t have easy access to Google Classroom, you can email me for instructions. (I am assuming families can access this page from a cell phone to see these instructions.)

Social Studies is the study of people in relation to each other and to their world. It draws upon history, geography, ecology, economics, law, philosophy, political science and other social science disciplines.
